Since its transition from an initiative to an institute at the end of June 2021, The Advanced Leadership Institute has been taking bold, new steps as it advances its mission to cultivate Black executive leadership and strengthen companies, institutions, and communities. One of those steps is the addition of four new members of its Board of Directors. TALI’s Board members play an important role in driving the organization’s strategic vision, and they work to ensure that TALI addresses the needs of corporate and community organizations throughout the region. The expansion of the Board will further strengthen TALI and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

These new members include:

• Eric Boughner, Chairman, BNY Mellon Pennsylvania
• Noland Cheung, Shareholder and Co-Leader, IP and Technology National Practice Group, Dentons Cohen & Grigsby
• Dr. Carlonda R. Reilly, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Kennametal Inc.
• Darrell Smalley, Principal and US-Central Tax Market Energy Sector Leader, EY

“I have been an executive mentor for TALI since its beginning and have enjoyed the rich experience of getting to know some fantastic leaders. So, when I was asked to join the board, I was absolutely honored! I believe in TALI’s mission and vision and am committed to helping Black executives navigate some of the roadblocks they might encounter in their professional careers. I appreciate this opportunity to share my own experiences and hopefully help TALI reach the next step as it expands beyond the region.”

Eric Boughner

“Strengthening diversity is one of BNY Mellon’s core values. We understand the value of building a more diverse workforce and how It supports a stronger and smarter company. We also recognize that no single company can do this alone – it is a team sport. We love working with partners in the community and TALI is a fantastic example and orchestrator of equity and inclusion in our region and beyond.”

– Eric Boughner, Chairman, BNY Mellon Pennsylvania

Darrell Smalley“I’ve served as an executive mentor for the past three cohorts, and I have had an amazing experience getting to know the participants and helping them as they seek to advance their careers. The one-on-one interaction has been very special. My new role as a TALI board member aligns well with my personal commitment to helping others and sharing the insights and knowledge I have gained throughout my career; and it’s an opportunity to help TALI continue to grow its local and national footprint.”

– Darrell Smalley, Principal and US-Central Tax Market Energy Sector Leader, EY

“My relationship with TALI began when I became a mentor for its first cohort. During sessions with my mentees, I believe my background allowed me to present a different perspective. I continued to serve as a mentor for the second and third cohorts, because I believe in equal rights for everyone, and I am committed to diversity. I consider it a big honor to be a part of this cause and join a group of such esteemed members on the Board of Directors. We are bringing more recognition to the need for diversity and creating a voice for the Black community. This is the right time to accomplish this in the Pittsburgh region and beyond.”

– Noland Cheung, Shareholder and Co-Leader, IP and Technology National Practice Group, Dentons Cohen & Grigsby

Each of these four individuals will bring a set of strengths to help TALI become a strong force in developing world-class talent that will help our region grow and prosper,” says Marsha Jones, The Advanced Leadership Institute Board Chair and Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at PNC.

TALI’s flagship leadership program, the Executive Leadership Academy, is currently in its third year. Delivered in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, the Executive Leadership Academy focuses on preparing Black leaders for executive advancement. The fourth cohort is scheduled for January through July 2022.
